V2L V2H for BYDE6 2019 and BYDE6Y 2015

Not sure which category to post this in

I am based in NZ

The BYDE6 2019 and E6Y2015 are ex Singaporean taxi fleet vehicles with 82Kwhr batteries. And E6 2019 is capable of 4.5KW output. No info on E6Y2015 yet.

I have bought the 2015E6Y very cheaply for solar use and maybe I can get it on the road as well and soon to get the later model as well.

Yet to know best solar grid tied 3 phase setup to get. I know I will need to disconnect any sub board supplied by V2L from grid due to batteries not being Grid useable from what I understand.

I have read long great thread article on the more modern BYD alto3 etc and V2L.

Wondering if any experiences of V2L V2H use for the E6.

I noticed BYD had to turn on V2L via a set up at dealer. Has anybody needed to get this done for BYD vehicles?

I also would like to make a V2L adapter cable to achieve 4.5KW capacity! I note someone made one for 3KW . There seems to be a 2.7Kohm resistor required. Some have 2.0K ohm. Not sure if both work and if it changes the output of just a flagging signal to car! What cable do I need to get? It’s only Type 2 AC charge port cable of up to 44Kw 3 phase input to car. Typically 22Kw 3 phase but works on single phase etc. Can I buy a type 2 AC 32A Charge cable with bare ends and put in the 2.7Kohm resistor and fit a plug capable of 4.5KW or? I am in NZ

Note the BYD E6Y 2015 car gives options for single and 3 phase 4.5KW in V2L output . Not been able to check this as it also gives V2H and V2G options not tested. The later model 2019 E6 has not shown more than V2L capability.

I also note use V2L to run a charger input is another way to avoid potential complicated separate circuit interactions but then I would have to get a solar Battery set up that if smaller might get to be a weak point if high cycle change. I am trying to offset solar battery costs with more versatile mobile car battery. Not do both ideally!

Last us that Solax are releasing in August to December hopefully hybrid inverter versions that can take V2L and provide V2H capabilities. This might be a great solution for many people if it is really compatible with any EV having V2L capability.

Any experiences greatly appreciated

Update. 2015EY6 . Tried a Factory BYD atto? V2L loaned cable for V2L test but it didn’t output anything. Search suggested it needs 1k ohn not 2.7k ohm across the 5Volt pilot signal . Tried to add externally but difficult.

Put 1k ohm across pilot to PE and the car reset it 10 mins to connect timer to 10 mins so it seems to register it. Volt meter shows no output on N and L1 or L2 or L3 when in 1 and then 3 phase output options in car setup.

Could the fact the plug is not present stop the output. There doesn’t appear to be a sensing aspect to the plug apart from the pilot ?

Not sure how to test the car output anywhere re it inverter. Don’t have a manual yet! More research. Anyone know if an 2015 EY6 that’s does V2L?

Thanks for any input or ideally output:grinning_face:

I wouldn’t expect any old model BYD to have the V2L inverter function built into the vehicle. For V2L to work, the inbuilt AC inverter (in the car) would need to be bidirectional, and this feature was not available until at least 2022.

Thanks for your response. I know that the 2019 E6 has V2L and the onboard computer controller in the E6Y from 2015 model which might have been made in 2016? Shows all the options of V2L, V2G and V2H so not sure why it would have then selectible and not have any of them. The difference here was BYD wanted to make a car that lasted a long lifecycle as a fleet car like a taxi. And they started with the battery and made a car around that if I understood correctly. So they may well have made V2L more of a priority as a battery manufacturer as uposed to other car focused companies?

Is it possible that the software was updated to show V2L, even though the hardware did not have it?

It is And I hanging on to hoping that it has it otherwise I into a probable complicated can bus interface thing that’s not in my skill set currently! And it not on darla site. I heard some one did it for E6 but not sure who or what year model battery

Bought this online last night for V2L . Can switch between 1K ohms hopefully matching E6Y and also 2kohms to match E6 2019 and 2.7k ohms to match latest Atto Byd . Turns out 2015 EY6 only has 61 Kwhr battery not 82 as hoped. But still plenty of backup for cabins and solar backup especially if V2L does work!

V2L Adapter with 2700 2000 and 1000 ohm setting options arrives this morning from China although storm winds here so maybe a few days before I drive an hour to where car is stored to test.

Tested V2L adapter that arrived from China on BYD E6Y 2015

It sensed the adapter plug going in on the 1kohm setting option as tested with a basic 1kohm resistor across PE to PP before ordering.

Unfortunately no power output.

I have asked BYD Singapore to confirm what’s actually available on V2L

It has a dedicated discharge button on the dash as well as the software so still hoping something might be in there not just software.

Does anyone know if the battery can be interfaced and how

A) while still in the car

B) if removed from the car. It hS a seperate over view part of Battery management box in the boot of the car apparently.

Dala? wiki does list the battery from the E6 although I heard it has been done!
