Solar Upgrade Advice + Battery in Perth

Looking for some insight as I explore options to expand my residential solar setup in Perth (3-phase home).

Current Setup

  • 1 × Fronius Symo 5.0-3-M inverter (installed 2018, 10-yr warranty)
  • 23 × Risen 285W panels = 6.55 kW total (north-facing roof, 25-yr panel warranty)
  • No battery at the moment

What I’m After

  • Upgrade to around 15 kW solar capacity
  • Add 10+ kWh battery storage
  • System should reduce grid draw, especially during A/C, pool, and sauna use

Options I’m Exploring

  • Option A – Expand: Keep the current system and add new panels to east and west-facing roof areas
  • Option B – Replace: Remove current system and install a fresh 15kW setup across north, east, and west

Battery & Inverter Thoughts

Considering Tesla Powerwall 3 (integrated inverter seems convenient), but totally open to better options based on WA conditions, ROI, and system compatibility. Anyone had good/bad experiences with other brands like Sungrow, BYD, Fronius Gen24?

Questions I’d Love Input On

  • Do I qualify for STCs if I expand the system? Or if I replace it entirely?
  • Do I need to be aware of any export limits or approvals for systems in WA?
  • Suggestions for reliable Perth-based installers who know their stuff and won’t oversell?

Sungrow is a great option, the hybrid inverters are good value for money and have great features. If your panels are ok, you could potentially just replace the inverter. Although, you would have to parallel the existing panel strings, if you wanted to add more panels.

Im living in Thailand and am currently i’m using a 3 phase 20kw Deye hybrid inverter with 3x 15kwh batteries.
The first 2 batteries i got off a local solar installer for 75000 THB.. but the third one i got from Lazada for 52000 THB. (1600 USD).
I see on Teslas Australia homepage they offer a 13kwh Powerwall for 11’000 dollars.. so there seems to be a massive difference in price.

The batteries I use got use JKBMS and seem to communicate well with my Deye inverter by just plugging them in. Didn’t have any issues since I installed the system.

But i have to add i previously had a Powmr (SRNE) Inveter and had some difficulties getting the BMS comunication running.
