What happens in the event of a grid power failure? Will the inverter operate autonomously to provide me with power or must the grid be functioning? What happens of an inverter failure? Can this result in tripping of protection devices and leave me without power or can the inverter be isolated to restore normal operation?
Good questions Kevs.

In case of grid failure, all normal grid connect inverters will shut down (because otherwise engineers working on the grid will have to deal with electricity input from solar systems). There are some all in one inverters (battery and solar) which disconnect from the grid and allow you to use the power from your batteries while the grid is down.

Inverter failure should not cause any disruption to your power supply. You will have isolators installed to break the circuit if there is any power surge.
