FIMER (ABB) UNO inverter review

Hi

I have been quoted for the following

  • 21 x 300w Jinko Eagle panels
  • 5kw ABB inverter
    Price $5540

Do you think this is a fair price? its a local business so the aftercare would be good and they have also been recommended by a friend.

I also have the option of going with the Sungrow 5kw inverter for $4980. Do you think its worth paying the extra $500 to go with the ABB? Everything i’ve read about the Sungrow inverter is positive.

Appreciate you thoughts.

Thanks

Hi @ijwhiting

ABB has had its problems, but appear to be sorting their stuff out. Sungrow is widely seen as the best Chinese inverter in the market, so that could be an option too.

Here’s an extract from our Best Solar Inverter article regarding ABB (now FIMER):

ABB decided to sell it’s entire solar inverter division to FIMER, a well established Italian based inverter manufacturer who took over ABB’s solar division in early 2020.

Background: ABB was a premium manufacturer offering a range of high quality string solar inverters, but gained a poor reputation from the old ‘Aurora’ branded inverters. ABB acquired Aurora ‘Power-one’ back in 2013 and thus had to deal with many warranty claims and service issues from the old generation Aurora inverters. Our specialists highlighted somewhat slow customer service compared to other manufacturers, even though ABB was a well respected industrial giant.

With the FIMER takeover and positive feedback on the new range of UNO-TL and UNO-TL-DM-PLUS inverters, it’s likely FIMER will maintain a strong market position going forward. It is hoped the new owner will also improve the previously slow customer support and service offered by ABB.

The UNO range of inverters have the common plug & play interfaces and wifi included on all models. To compete in the growing energy storage market, the second generation REACT 2 hybrid inverters from FIMER are a unique modular battery energy storage system (BESS) which can be either AC or DC coupled.

Thanks Marty

I’m going with the Sungrow and Jinko panels. I’ll leave a review after the installation.

Personally, I feel that SunGrow is better than ABB because Sungrow is very popular; most of the users want to install the Sungrow inverters. The price looks very impressive to me, no matter what model you choose.

Well, I am in favor of the Sungrow inverters but I would like to recommend Fronius inverters also because this inverter is tagged as reliable inverter in various review websites, forums and shopping ports.

Some pros of Fronius inverters are not available with the Sungrow inverters:
Easy to install
Fronius inverters are made in Europe
Quick to reach customer support

So, I think that Fronius is also not bad.
