Does anyone know anything about Vanadium batteries? I was just reading an article (although it doesn’t sound that well written!) https://finance.yahoo.com/news/move-aside-lithium-vanadium-super-230000615.html?.tsrc=applewf
Vanadium or Vanadium flow batteries are actually an old technology and have been around for commercial energy storage for about a decade. The Australian company Redflow produced a residential version called the Zcell but it was unsuccessful due to the low efficiency (80%) and extremely high energy/weight ratio compared to lithium. The 10kWh battery weighed in at close to a quarter of a tonne making it very difficult to transport and install.
Vanadium flow batteries are more useful for commercial large scale applications and I’m sure they will advance more over time in improve on the efficiency and cost issues.
