Roof color and solar panels

We are choosing the shingles for a roof to be put on our home soon. We want to add solar panels to the roof soon thereafter. We understand that the efficiency of the solar panel can be effected by the temperature the panel is exposed to. We live in Atlanta, Georgia and have a south facing roof. Can you offer us advice about roof color to enhance our solar panel efficiency?

Hi there @hegary

Firstly, I doubt it will make significant difference, given the panels will be covering the roof anyway. However,

this is true, solar panels become less efficient as they heat up. Of course we know that dark colours get hotter than light, so if you wanted to play it safe, presumably a light coloured roof would be cooler than dark.

The difference between shingle colors has got to be super minimal. If roof color is light it’s more efficient and dark roof color is least.
