# Fronius Gen24 Plus question

Hi there,
Just wondering why the Fronius Symo Gen24 Plus with BYD batteries can’t be used for an off grid house, using the full backup not PV Point

Like most hybrid inverters, the Symo GEN24 is not designed as a dedicated off-grid inverter. It intended use is for energy storage and short term backup of essential loads (lighting, fridges, basic power circuits). Due to the backup power limitations, it will not run not air-conditioning units, ovens, pumps etc.
All inverters designed for [off-grid use heavy-duty transformers](https://www.cleanenergyreviews.info/blog/best-off-grid-solar-system) to handle large startup loads and continuous high loads. Plus they have black startup capability, generator controls, and can use either AC or DC solar.

I agree with the reasons regarding the inverter, but I have full backup power and run my whole house including AC, welder etc. But as you mentioned you can’t go off grid forever, but also the Gen 24 warranty says you next be connected to the grid 85% ? of the time.
