Passive solar is a wonderful thing. It is about utilising the sun’s energy simply by smart design. It is possible to massively reduce the energy needed to heat and cool a building by facing it in a certain direction, and designing it in a way that allows maximum sun in the winter and minimum in the summer. There are so many beautiful applications of passive solar dating back to many millennia BC.

We would love to hear about and see clever designs that people are using in homes and offices to control the power of the sun.

> In passive solar building design, windows, walls, and floors are made to collect, store, reflect, and distribute solar energy, in the form of heat in the winter and reject solar heat in the summer. This is called passive solar design because, unlike active solar heating systems, it does not involve the use of mechanical and electrical devices.
